Malaysia to maintain halal product exports at RM35.4bil

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia intends to maintain the export value for halalproducts at RM35.4bil this year, the same as last year's figure.
About 20% of the total are by bumiputra exporters, who have targeted to export their products to overseas markets including Singapore and China.
Halal Industry Development Corp chief executive officer Datuk Seri Jamil Bidin said the corporation hoped that more bumiputra companies could participate in the industry.
Halal products have to be viewed in a bigger scope. It does not only involve food products such as raw beef but also cosmetics, pharmaceutical, Muslim dresses and headscarves. In view of the high demand for such products, the bumiputra businesses should know how to take advantage of the opportunities,” he said at the memorandum of understanding signing ceremony here yesterday.
Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA) and CIMB Islamic Bank signed separate MoUs with Shapers Malaysia Sdn Bhd in conjunction with Halal Fiesta Malaysia, to be held from Oct 10 to Oct 14 here. - Bernama
