KUALA KUBU BARU: Some 429 students of Maktab Rendah Sains MARA Kuala Kuala Bharu had to be evacuated when the boys’ hostel caught fire tonight.
Hulu Selangor police chief Superintendent Norel Azmi Yahya Affendy said the boys were in their dorm when the fire started at 9.30pm.
The fire destroyed the three-storey building.
He said 30 policemen were deployed to the scene to control the crowd.
"Five fire engines from nearby stations were sent to the scene to control the fire. We also sought help from the Civil Defence Department ," said Norel.
He said the fire was put out at 10pm.
He said the affected students were later placed at the nearby surau.
