KUALA LUMPUR: All 207 MARA-sponsored students in Japan are safe and there are no plans to evacuate them.
There are 131 students in Tokyo while the rest are in other parts of the country, such as Osaka and Kyoto.
Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal advised their parents not worry.
The students are taking science, engineering and electronic courses.
He said MARA Education Foundation would send 84 students on March 19 and 20 to study in seven universities in Tokyo and 15 others to different parts of the country.
Earlier, at the launch of the MARA Education Carnival which has the theme "Converging Interests and Opportunities" at the Putra World Trade Centre here, he said Mara was targeting to sponsor 128,800 students from now until 2015.
For the July intake, Mara institutions will be offering 27,347 places for various courses. They are Kolej Profesional Mara, Kolej Kemahiran Tinggi Mara, Kolej PolyTech Mara, German Malaysia Institute, Universiti Kuala Lumpur and GiatMara.
