Majlis Amanah Rakyat (MARA), an agency under the Ministry Of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development, is targeting to collect between RM550 million and RM600 million in loan repayments this year.
Chairman Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh said Mara collected RM692 million in repayments last year against a target of RM500 million.
“This is an improvement of 40 percent from the target we fixed and this just goes to show that Bumiputera entrepreneurs who obtained loans from MARA were making great strides to repay their loans.
“There are many positive changes noticeable among Bumiputera entrepreneurs and the total collection, thus far, proves their commitment to change their mindset,” he told reporters after opening a seminar on transforming entrepreneurs’ image.
On the transformation of MARA’s 30-year old business premises, Idris said RM167 million has been allocated for the redevelopment and upgrading of the building in order to give it a fresh look.
“To date, MARA has 484 buildings which offered 7,388 retail space and from the total, about 50 per cent were more than 30 years old. We must ensure that they remain relevant to the business sector.
“For this year, MARA Terengganu has allocated RM632,800 for the refurbishment of all MARA business premises in the state” he added. -BERNAMA
