MARA students in Queensland safe from tornado

PORT DICKSON: All 26 MARA students in Townsville, Queensland, Australia are safe from the 'mini tornado' which hit the town yesterday.

The medical students at James Cook University were reported to be safe, said Rural and Regional Development minister Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal here today.

"I hope the students' parents are not unduly worried. MARA officers and our embassy there will ensure their safety is top priority," he told reporters.

Commenting further, he said efforts would be made to evacuate them if necessary but felt that the situation was under control.

He was speaking at the sidelines of a gathering with Negeri Sembilan MARA entrepreneurs at the MARA arcade in Port Dickson here today.

It is understood that the students are staying off campus in a suburb near the university and their houses have not been affected by the freak storm. -- BERNAMA
