PENDANG: Twenty Pusat Giat Mara Pendang trainees recently came to the aid of a single mother who needed electrical wiring installed at her new house in Kampung Pulau Macang here.

The Giat Mara trainees at work in the home of Che Yon Din in Kampung Pulau Machang, Ayer Putih.

An excited Che Yon Din, 50, who could not wait to move into her new house, was overwhelmed by the trainees' kindness.

The single mother of four also said she was thankful to the Government for the house, which was built under the Hardcore Poor Development Programme.

"I am so grateful for all the assistance from the government and also to Pusat Pendang Giat Mara for sending the trainees to install the electrical wires," she said when met at her new home.

Che Yon was also thankful to Sungai Tiang assemblyman, Suraya Yaakob, who had funded the materials.

Recalling her hardship, Che Yon said she had been staying at her sister's house after her husband passed away 10 years ago.

She earned an RM8 daily income from tapping rubber to raise her children.

Pusat Giat Mara Pendang manager, Shafie Awang, said the assistance was part of the institution's programme to help the needy in the community.

The programme's participants are trainees undertaking the certificate in electrical engineering at the centre. By Nordiana Shafiee.
