PUTRAJAYA: The Polytech Mara College's (KPTM) status will be upgraded to university college next year to produce more Bumiputera professionals.
College chairman Datuk Sohaimi Shahadan said two out of the nine KPTMs nationwide would be selected in the first stage of upgrading.
"This is part of our efforts to improve the colleges so that more Bumiputera professionals in specific areas, such as accounting, can be produced," he said after KPTM's 28th convocation yesterday.
A total of 4,050 graduates received their degrees, diplomas and professional certificates at the convocation held at Putrajaya International Convention Centre here.
He said KPTM was ready to be upgraded after receiving the ISO rating certification (ISO 9001:2008) from SIRIM Berhad in April.
Sohaimi added that the college would also collaborate with various foreign universities in a bid to improve its teaching quality.
He said a new KPTM branch would be set up in Sarawak later this year to accommodate 1,500 students.
