Ex-Giat Mara official fined for cheating

BUTTERWORTH: A former GiatMara Centre manager was fined RM7,000 by the Sessions Court hre yesterday for cheating his staff by submitting a forged supply payment order worth RM31,500 for a switchboard in 2006.

Capt (R) Muhammad Zaini Md Noor, 51, from Taman Bertam Indah, Kepala Batas, pleaded guilty to deceiving his former staff at Pongsu Seribu GiatMara Centre to issue a payment order worth RM31,500 for a switchboard that was never supplied to the centre.

Zaini had tendered a government supply document to senior administrative assistant Sariza Mohamad Rodhi that contained false information by acknowledging that Syahmis Utara Enterprise had supplied, delivered and installed a 600A floor mounted main switchboard for RM31,500.

He misled Sariza, as the Majlis Amanah Rakyat principal agent, by handing over the government supply document AD716192 dated in September 2006 despite having full knowledge that the switchboard was never supplied.

Counsel Hadi Mulyana Citra Wijaya Suyadi, who represented Zaini, said in mitigation that his client had been negligent by failing to double-check the payment document prepared by his staff and that he did not gain anything from the transaction.
